Snow has something of a novelty for me again, though we did get a freak hailstorm in Maputo once which the locals said was first in ~20 years.

I just took a couple of photos but nothing good. Was reminded of the old truth: snow is cold. Soaked my only shoes, sniffled home again.

Anti-camera tech

techdirt: don’t take my picture “Some Georgia Tech researchers have come up with some technology that detects the presence of digital cameras then shoots a targeted beam of light at them to prevent them taking any legible photos.”

There’s a set of flickr toys at that site, and in general, there’s the great flickr tools collection.

hashing again, now that they’ve improved the roads in Maputo. This was right at the end of last week’s run, which despite this crocodile-baiting was my favourite ever. I’ll try to get a better resolution copy of this.

Sunset in Edinburgh

Monday, July 11th, 2005

sunset in edinburgh
Taken in Edinburgh a couple of years ago.

Saw the jet-li film “Danny the Dog” yesterday (trailer). It’s full of scenes of Glasgow, which means I can point people at it and say “there’s my old house”.

Looks like Grant.St. is in there at one point. No one has a glasgow accent - probably figured it would be too hard to understand. Also jet li wouldn’t have stood a chance against a wee ned wi a chib. Shame Morgan Freeman and the girl didn’t buy it right at the start, then they could have not been in it at all.

It’s also worth watching for Jet Li’s impersonation of Mat Lucas’ character Andy from the comedy show “Little Britain” - “want a piano”.

lomugraphic cameras on amazon

Friday, April 29th, 2005

Amazon.com: All Products Search Results: lomugraphicHere’s what I want, lomugraphy, a camera with an array of lenses which fire sequentially. Plenty of really sunny days here in moz, which is necessary as you can’t put a flash on to help with all four exposures.

Also, I’ll have to scan/photograph the resulting photos for you to see.

But can’t anyone make these things a bit more robust? I reckon there’s a space for putting some playful macros on a digital camera to reproduce the lomugraphy effect from burst mode and output pre-composed chopped images from the sequences.

Via onde I can’t remember.
