Dave Bau created a quicksearch toolbar like the google toolbar, but for windows desktop taskbar. With simple syntax, it allows you to search various engines, dictionaries, weather, maps, acts as a calculator, and is completely configurable, Free and open source. (via antenna, via the suddenly essential heyotwell) . Here’s an interview with Dave Bau about the quick search toolbar.
Actually, also check out this javascript sandpit which has an interesting example script to do linedrawing. I didn’t know that was possible.

Windows Hothouse - Creating Artificial Life with Visual C++, ISBN 0-201-62669-1. A great book from 1995 on A-Life and GAs which I’ve borrowed here from La Hulpe’s library, but not available on Amazon. Looking forward to mining it for creative programming ideas to use for my own and teaching projects. Maybe I can redo some of the projects using (MIT) Mitch Resnick’s StarLogo.
